At The Active Social, we believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to connect with others and build a life filled with purpose and friendship. For many NDIS participants, particularly those with Autistic Spectrum Disorders or other Disability, engaging in social activities is not just a leisure pursuit—it’s a powerful form of Therapy that fosters positive Behaviour and essential social skills.
Structured, inclusive, and social activities, like those offered at The Active Social, are a powerful positive Behaviour support strategy. They provide a predictable and safe environment where participants can learn to navigate social cues, manage emotions, and build a sense of belonging. This is about creating breakthroughs, not just campaigns.
-Building Social Skills Through Shared Experiences
Our group activities, from team sports to creative workshops, are designed to be a natural and engaging way to develop social skills. Participants learn to communicate effectively; whether it’s cheering on a teammate or expressing a need, our activities provide real-world opportunities to practice communication. We also help them learn to cooperate and collaborate, and working together to achieve a shared goal, like completing an obstacle course, builds teamwork and mutual respect. Additionally, consistent engagement with the same group of peers helps them to form genuine connections and a supportive social circle.
-Enhancing Emotional Regulation and Self-Confidence
Engaging in new and challenging activities helps individuals build resilience and emotional regulation. Our programs, delivered by experienced Support Workers, are designed to be fun and empowering, offering a low-pressure environment. They are able to manage challenges by learning to navigate a new activity or a social situation that builds confidence and problem-solving skills. We also help them express emotions constructively by supporting participants in understanding and expressing their feelings in a healthy way, fostering emotional intelligence. Lastly, each success, big or small, reinforces a sense of accomplishment and self-worth, which is vital for positive Behaviour.
-The Importance of Community and Belonging
A sense of belonging is fundamental to our well-being. For individuals with a Disability, finding a welcoming Community can be life-changing. Our programs offer a supportive space where participants are celebrated for who they are, fostering a strong sense of inclusion and reducing feelings of isolation. This creates an environment where positive Behaviour naturally thrives.
At The Active Social, we are committed to providing a space where participants can build the skills and confidence to lead more connected, fulfilling lives. Our programs are designed not just for fun, but as a strategic approach to positive behaviour support and social skill development within a vibrant and inclusive community.
